NVIDIA | Roborace

NVIDIA Recently showcased their fully autonomous Level 5 race car. This car was built to drive for Roborace, which is a completely driverless race. Although Roborace was originally announced in 2016, there have been several developments since then that quite literally help drive the vehicle. The car weighs in quite light at around 2,204 pounds and is roughly 15.7 feet long. There are four motors and a single battery. The vehicle is also capable of reaching speeds of over 200+ mph. Currently it is using the NVIDIA Drive PX2 Technology, however it will soon be upgraded to "Xavier" which is Nvidia's new AI chip used for their self driving vehicles.

For now, in Roborace the actual car will be the same for all of the teams and the competition will be dependent on the software implemented from each team. This is in hopes of improving AI technology by pushing the limits of autonomous vehicles and ultimately improving algorithms for increased safety of autonomous vehicles. Also unlike traditional racing, there is an added element of obstacle avoidance, as is this is something that will definitely help to increase performance of AI within other vehicle applications. I've included a highlights reel from when Roborace made history riding through the streets of Paris this past May.
